Find out more about
Polygraphy is a noninvasive sleep study that uses a portable monitoring device used at home to diagnose sleep apnea. This test measures heart rate, blood oxygen level, airflow and breathing patterns. If the results are abnormal, therapy may be prescribed without further testing. Polygraphy doesn't always detect all cases of sleep apnea, so polysomnography may still be recommended even if the initial results are normal.
WHAT TO EXPECT?
Once the polygraphy is prescribed by our doctor, he will take the time to carefully explain the whole procedure and walk you through how the different sensors are installed. Great benefit of these type of tests it that you will be in comfort of your home.
The portable device records multiple physiological parameters throughout the night, with the use of several probes:
- Chest belt
- Nasal cannula
- Finger probe
Please watch the following videos to learn more about this sleep test and how to install the device.
The next morning, once the test is complete, you will bring the device back to LF Clinic where the date will be analyzed and interpreted by our sleep specialist. According to these results, we will propose a second appointment to discuss together the various treatment options.
As previously mentioned, polygraphy only evaluates obstructive sleep apnea. If polygraphy come back negative and a sleep specialist suspects another sleep disorder, a laboratory-based polysomnography is required for further testing.
