Find out more about
The earlobes get noticed when both women and men often wear earrings. The problem can start when earrings get caught on clothing, accidents can occur and cause the earlobes to rip, or the weight of heavier earrings can cause the earlobe to stretch and hang lower. As we continue age, this hanging, drooping or ripped earlobe, become more prominent and unattractive. Similarly, this can be also hereditary condition.
Ear rejuvenation is a common surgical procedure that is performed to correct large, pendulous or ripped earlobes that many patients find unattractive.
- Surgery is safe and effective, and performed under local anesthesia
- Permanent results
- Combined in conjunction with other procedures for complete facial rejuvenation
This type of surgical procedure is performed to correct large, pendulous earlobes caused by aging that many patients find unattractive.
Good candidates are patients with:
- Earlobes that are too large
- Floppy earlobes that have excess hanging skin
- Over pierced or split earlobes
Not good candidates are patients with:
- Not realistic expectations
WHAT RESULTS TO EXPECT?
During your consultation the surgeon will assess earlobe anatomy. It is important to correctly diagnose the leading cause of the defect. There are many factors that can determine what makes an ear beautiful: size, position, and how they blend in overall patient's facial features.
HOW TO PREPARE FOR TREATMENT?
Ear rejuvenation surgery is done under local anesthesia. No special
steps are needed in this type of surgery. You will be instructed to take certain steps:
- Laboratory testing – blood work, which can be done in laboratory of your choosing or in our OR center
- Take certain medications or adjust your current medications
Your surgeon will ask you about your past medical history, including medications you are taking, allergies, smoking habits, previous surgery and more.
Also, you have to avoid taking aspirin, anti-inflammatory drugs, warfarin sodium and other supplements as they can increase bleeding and bruising. Prior to surgery all patients should start with vitamin supplementation and homeopathic therapies to enhance healing after surgery.
Know more about
As a first step, medications are administered for your comfort during the surgical procedure.
There are several techniques that we use in ear rejuvenation surgery to get the optimal result.
The procedure begins with marking the earlobe in a geometric shape that was discussed during the consultation. The earlobe is then injected with local anaesthesia, and excess tissue is removed while remining tissue is reconstructed. Incision are meticulously closed with absorbable sutures, while earlobe heals with very minimal scarring.
The surgery itself should take roughly 30 minutes, while the whole procedure takes around 1h with preparation. Shortly after the treatment you are able to go your home. We will provide each patient with simple post-surgical instructions. It is recommended that patients arrange to have a ride home following the procedure.
Time to heal
During the following day, you will come in clinic for a checkup, where we will ensure that everything is looking perfect and healing properly. Pain medication may be prescribed if needed.
Recovery following a cheek surgery involves no downtime. There will be some residual swelling that may last up to a week but will subside on its own. Some patients may experience minor swelling and bruising which will subside on their own over the first few days of recovery. The recovery involves little to no pain or discomfort and most patients can return to work the very next day.
The results of the surgery will be permanent and will be visibly seen immediately following the procedure. The full results of the procedure will be visible once all swelling goes down.
Ear rejuvenation is individualized, taking care not to distort other structures and to avoid an unnatural "hollow" appearance.
The most common side
effect of the surgery is minor swelling and bruising, which subsides in few
days. Other potential risks and complications
of the surgery are extremely rare, especially in the hands of a qualified
surgeon, but include:
- Bleeding (hematoma)
- Blood clots
- Poor wound healing
- Skin contour irregularities
- Anesthesia risks
- Unfavorable scarring
