Know more about
During the abdominal wall operation, which takes an average of one and a half hours, subcutaneous fat and excess skin is removed. If necessary, the surgeon can also tighten the abdominal muscle. If the fat accumulation is only under your belly button, the operation is easier than if it is also above the belly button. If necessary, a tummy tuck can be combined with a liposculpture of the upper abdomen and/or flanks. As with any operation, scars are inevitable. If possible, the plastic surgeon will make a transverse incision, which falls under the so-called bikini line and can thus be easily concealed. If the belly button needs to be moved, there is also a scar around the belly button. After surgery you usually have to stay in the clinic for one night. As soon as you can walk again and the nurse is satisfied with the recovery and your condition, you can go home. Drains are left after the operation. During the check these drains and the bandage are removed. You can shower again afterwards. The sutures are soluble.
Although the pain is generally limited, you still have to count on approximately ten days to recover. The first days your stomach is slightly swollen and painful. Despite the discomfort, it is important not to stay in bed. In favour of a well performing circulatory system, especially in the legs, you should start walking again as soon as possible.
Practice shows that the satisfied feeling about the smooth belly outweighs the disadvantage of the scars. The better your condition and abdominal muscles were before the operation, the faster you will recover. In any case ensure sufficient exercise and a healthy diet. Also give your body the peace it needs. If possible, arrange extra help at home. You can start working again after two to three weeks. With a full tummy tuck, we advise you to stop smoking before and after treatment to improve and accelerate the healing process.
